For Life Experiences offers educational courses accredited by ASDAN. We are an approved ASDAN provider and specialise in education outside the classroom.
For Life Experiences is offering the following educational courses accredited by ASDAN. All courses run one day a week for six weeks. Please note that participants must attend a Fish For Life Course before attending any other educational course. The topics and skills included in each course will be embedded in a curriculum based around fishing. Every course will award 3 ASDAN credits which can be used towards their GCSEs and at least one ASDAN Short Course Award.
Fish For Life
This is a six session course designed to introduce participants to the basics of several fishing disciplines. Each session will comprise of a team building activity, the introduction of a new fishing skill or technique and of course, fishing! Participants will learn the skills necessary to fish independently allowing for continued participation as well as interpersonal skills such as communication, cooperation, patience and perseverance. This course is a prerequisite for FLE’s other educational courses.
On completion of the course, participants will receive:
- Fish For Life Award
- ASDAN Activities Award (30 hours)
- Team FLE Membership
- FLE Team T-Shirt
- Environment Agency Rod Licence
- Fishing Pole
Successful completion of this course gives participants access to our additional ASDAN accredited educational packages where they will build on the skills learnt on the Fish For Life Course.
Introduction to Fishery Management
This is a six-session course that will build on the skills learnt during the Fish For Life Course. Participants on this course will get an introduction to fishery management. Modules will include lessons on biology, habitat, nutritional requirements of fish commonly found in the UK as well as the breeding methods used in UK fisheries. As always, this course will focus on practical learning on the bank, stock pond and hatchery. Maths, Environment and English skills will be embedded within the practical learning.
On completion of this course, participants will receive:
- ASDAN Maths Award (10 hours)
- ASDAN Environment Award (10 hours)
- ASDAN English Award (10 hours)
Successful completion of this course combined with the Fish For Life Award will fulfill half of the credit requirements necessary to achieve an ASDAN CoPE Qualification, which counts towards GCSEs.
Way to Work
This is a six-session course that will introduce participants to the employment opportunities within the modern fisheries industry. The main focus of this course will be on the practical exploration of career opportunities within this industry. Participants will get to experience working different roles within fishery management at venues such as Greenridge Farm Fishery, Longbridge Lakes and Sparsholt College.
On completion of this course, participants will receive:
- ASDAN Experience of Work Award (30 hours)
OR
- ASDAN CoPE Work Experience and Environment Modules
Successful completion of this course will add 30 hours (or 3 credits) of ASDAN awards to their record of achievement. Alternatively, participants who are working towards their CoPE award may chose to use this course to fulfil the requirements of the Work Experience and Environment Modules within the CoPE qualification.
Community Volunteering Course
This six- session course is aimed at increasing participation in community projects. The activities undertaken on this course will vary. Participants will engage in activities such as netting fish, building fishing platforms (swims), clearing brush where necessary, maintaining nature spaces and up dating information boards for visiting anglers.
On completion of this course, participants will receive: 
- ASDAN CIVA Award (30 hours)
- V involved volunteer registration
Successful completion of this course will give participants 30 hours in their ASDAN Short Course Award. This can be combined with the credits received on the Fish For Life course to serve as the entire short course element of the ASDAN CoPE Qualification.
Junior Coaching Course
This is a six- session course aimed at creating a core of young, up and coming coaches to ensure the legacy of responsible angling. Participants on this course will build on the angling skills they gained on the Fish For Life Course and any other course they may have attended. This course will teach participants how to coach newcomers to the sport the principles of responsible angling. Participants will then coach young novice anglers under the watchful eye of FLE’s Pro Staff.
On completion of this course, participants will receive:
- For Life Experiences Junior Coach Award
- ASDAN Peer Tutor Award
- FLE Junior Coach T-Shirt
Successful completion of this course will give participants 3 ASDAN credits. This can be combined with the credits received on the Fish For Life course to serve as the entire short course element of the ASDAN CoPE Qualification. Additionally, junior coaches who show promise may be invited to coach on a voluntary basis after the course is completed. And who knows they may just become future FLE Pro Staff……
Advanced Coaching Skills Course
This is a six- session course designed to increase the skill set of participants looking to develop their ability to work with groups and individuals, especially young people and vulnerable adults. This course will look at mentoring skills, child protection and situational leadership to ensure an in depth understanding of how best to work with any given group. These skills will be put into practice working with participants on other For Life Experiences and community based projects.
On completion of this course, participants will receive:
- For Life Experiences Advanced Junior Coach Award
- ASDAN Peer Mentor Award
Successful completion of this course will give participants 30 hours or 3 credits in their ASDAN Peer Mentor Short Course Award. This can be combined with the credits received on the Fish For Life course to serve as the entire short course element of the ASDAN CoPE Qualification. Additionally, junior coaches who show promise may be invited to coach on a voluntary basis after the course is completed.
Enterprise Experience Course
This is a six-session course designed to develop entrepreneurial skills and explore the field of product development in the fishing industry. On this course, participants will engage in many levels of product development such as research, design, production, budget management, marketing and selling their product. This course will be based on practical learning; participants will work together to develop a real product that they will pitch to relevant retailers.
On completion of this course, participants will receive:
- ASDAN Enterprise Award
- Product sample
- Ability to promote product on FLE website
Successful completion of this course will give participants 30 hours or 3 credits in their ASDAN Enterprise Short Course Award. This can be combined with the credits received on the Fish For Life course (or any other
courses in which 3 credits were earned) to serve as the entire short course element of the ASDAN CoPE Qualification.
